OpenAI reportedly puts annualized revenue near $50 billion

The figure is about $20 billion below an earlier estimate drawn from information shared with investors.

OpenAI has told investors its annualized revenue is nearing $50 billion, according to a media report, rather than the nearly $70 billion figure previously reported. The lower figure comes as the company faces scrutiny over the scale of investment supporting its operations.

The earlier estimate used information OpenAI had supplied to investors, the report said. It emerged from investors’ efforts to compare the company’s annualized revenue directly with that of rival Anthropic, rather than from the same calculation now being communicated.

The two companies use different methods to measure annualized revenue. Anthropic includes sales through its cloud partners in its calculation, while OpenAI excludes those sales, complicating a direct comparison of their figures.

OpenAI raised $122 billion in a March funding round. Leaked financial figures for 2025 showed it brought in about $13 billion while spending substantially more. Its IPO has been delayed until early 2027, after earlier rumors that it would take place sooner.
