Netflix preparing to cut about 5% of jobs, media report says

The company declined to comment on the reported plans and had about 16,000 full-time employees at its latest year-end.

A workforce reduction of about 5% is planned at Netflix, according to an October 9 media report citing people familiar with the matter. An announcement is expected, the report said, but Netflix declined to comment.

Netflix's full-time staff numbered about 16,000 at its latest year-end. In 2022, its last major round of job cuts eliminated hundreds of roles against a backdrop of slower growth and subscriber losses.

Competition in streaming has been increasing as media businesses consolidate. YouTube is also gaining a greater share of both audience viewing and advertising spending.

Alongside its subscription operations, Netflix has been putting money into advertising, live programming and gaming to broaden the sources of its revenue.
