TypeSafe AI, which develops the Jev artificial intelligence model, has raised $870 million in a funding round valuing the company at $7.5 billion. The financing follows the model’s September 15 launch by just a few weeks.

Andreessen Horowitz led the round. Sequoia also invested, alongside DCVC, which was already a backer. TypeSafe says a third of Fortune 500 companies are using Jev.

Although Jev uses a transformer architecture, it is not a large language model. Its output consists of probabilities rather than text, which TypeSafe describes as “calibrated decisions.” The company says Jev operates significantly faster than large language models while consuming far fewer tokens.

TypeSafe presents the model as a tool for task automation, rather than for producing text or code. Co-founder Diogo Almeida said human-language capabilities were not useful for automation because computers use a different language.

Almeida, previously an OpenAI researcher, founded TypeSafe in 2024 with Sasha Sheng, a former research engineer at Meta, and Erik Gafni, an engineer and entrepreneur.
