Meta’s Muse tops 10 million U.S. downloads within 40 days
Sensor Tower data show Meta increased Muse’s share of its advertising budget in October, while the app’s retention exceeded the average for three AI rivals.

Meta’s AI companion Muse recorded 10.2 million U.S. downloads within 40 days of launch, according to market intelligence firm Sensor Tower. The app has drawn 10.9 million downloads overall since its September debut.
Sensor Tower Senior Insights Analyst Kara Lee said just 11 other apps had crossed that U.S. download threshold within the same period after launch. Meta’s Threads was the most recent, in July 2023; most of the others were mobile games.
Meta has stepped up its advertising commitment to Muse. Sensor Tower estimates that the app accounted for 39% of Meta’s total advertising spending in October, compared with 23% in September. Muse ranked 21st among U.S. brands by advertising impressions in October, versus 73rd the previous month.
The firm’s U.S. data also showed Muse retaining 30% of users after seven days and 23% after 14 days. For ChatGPT, Claude and Grok, the corresponding averages were 19% and 16%. Muse’s daily active user count reached 2.5 million on October 16, an increase of 15% week over week.
ChatGPT registered 3.7 million U.S. downloads during its initial 40 days, while Grok recorded 500,000 and Claude 200,000. ChatGPT’s worldwide total was around 15 million over that launch period, though its geographic availability was broader. Muse is currently offered only in the U.S. and Canada.
