Google said a power outage at its London-area cloud data center disrupted multiple services on October 20, 2026, as UK banks reported problems affecting customers. The company said the incident started at 6:08 a.m. GMT and expected services to recover fully around 1 p.m. GMT.

Revolut experienced interruptions to ATM withdrawals, transfers and card top-ups. A source familiar with the situation linked those problems to the Google Cloud outage. A spokesperson for the digital bank said it had been working on the issue since identifying it and assured customers that their money and data remained safe.

Lloyds said some customers had trouble using its app and online banking. HSBC also acknowledged access problems and said it was monitoring the situation, noting that other organizations were affected.

Google's service updates described increased errors and intermittent network failures across several cloud services in its europe-west2 region, which covers its London data center.

Downdetector, which tracks internet service interruptions, showed hundreds of problem reports involving other businesses, including property website Rightmove and postal operator Royal Mail.
