Instacart has discussed a possible acquisition with rivals DoorDash and Uber and hired an investment bank to assess its options, according to media reports. The discussions are preliminary and may not lead to a sale.

Uber reportedly ended its participation in the talks. The reports described contacts with both competitors but did not establish that Instacart would reach an agreement with either company.

Instacart shares rose more than 9.2% following the reports of a possible sale, while shares of DoorDash and Uber fell. The grocery delivery company's market capitalization exceeds $13 billion, and its stock has gained 25% for the year to date.
