SoftBank Group CEO Masayoshi Son is seeking as much as $100 billion from investors in the Gulf for further artificial intelligence investments, according to an October 9 media report citing people familiar with the matter.

The report said Son had discussed the possible fundraising with senior figures in recent weeks, including in the United Arab Emirates. The money would go toward creating a fund to buy companies and improve their operations through AI and other advanced technologies.

The reported fundraising effort follows SoftBank's announcement that it had finished investing $30 billion in OpenAI, fulfilling its commitment to the ChatGPT developer's latest funding round. SoftBank also raised $11.1 billion through a high-yield corporate bond offering to finance its OpenAI investment. The sale was the largest of its kind worldwide.

The fundraising report lacked immediate independent verification. SoftBank provided no response to a request seeking comment.
