The coding and AI-agent model has 816 billion parameters, with 42 billion active at any one time, Meta said.

Meta Platforms released an open-weight edition of its Muse Spark artificial intelligence model on October 15, allowing developers to download and customize the technology for coding and AI-agent tasks.

Meta said the model contains 816 billion parameters in total, of which 42 billion are active at once, and supports a context window reaching 1 million tokens. It can run locally using two Apple M5 Ultra Mac Studio computers and is accessible through some API providers.

Making trained parameters available lets developers modify a model rather than rely on a proprietary system controlled by its creator. Such models can lower costs for businesses and give them more control over data, though operating them at scale can demand substantial computing capacity and technical expertise.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg has argued against concentrating advanced AI within a small group of companies. Meta also released a smaller open-weight model, Muse Glimmer, in August.
