Meta launched Muse Spark Open on October 15, 2026, introducing an open-weight AI model designed for local use on Apple computers. The company is also offering access through several API platforms.

The model has 816 billion parameters and a context window of 1 million tokens. Meta said its evaluation results showed performance ahead of other popular open-weight models. The company described Muse Spark Open as its most capable U.S. open-weight offering.

Local operation requires substantial computing resources. According to a media report, the model needs at least 1 terabyte of RAM. A Mac Studio equipped with the M5 Ultra chip is identified as the best-performing setup.

Muse Spark Open supports multiple types of input and was built for complex programming and tasks carried out by AI agents. Meta said it combined the model with its Muse Code coding terminal to work on a Mastodon client, including fixing bugs, adding features and completing a build.

Meta also said it used the model to operate DaVinci Resolve video-editing software, where it reviewed footage and cropped clips.
