Group finds proposals for at least 17 US data center campuses on federal land
At least 35 applications for campuses and supporting infrastructure cover more than 24,000 acres across six Western states, a conservation group's analysis found.

Developers have proposed at least 17 data center campuses on federal land in the United States, an analysis by the Center for Western Priorities found. The conservation group counted at least 35 active or pending applications involving data centers, covering more than 24,000 acres.
The study used US Bureau of Land Management records and identified 13 supporting infrastructure projects, including pipelines, roads, telecommunications facilities and power transmission lines. The applications span Wyoming, Oregon, Utah, Arizona, Nevada and Idaho.
The group's map shows several infrastructure applications connected to a Wyoming facility planned by Prometheus Hyperscale. It also includes proposals by developer Copia Power in Idaho, Nevada and Arizona.
President Donald Trump's administration has made data center expansion a national priority while seeking broader industrial development on public land, including technology, energy and mining projects. Public opposition to data centers has been increasing over concerns about power and water use, effects on wildlife and access to federal land. Bureau officials were not immediately available to comment.
