OpenAI announced on October 20, 2026, that it had acquired Orchestra Bio, a four-year-old startup developing artificial intelligence software for biotechnology companies. The company did not disclose the deal’s financial terms.

Orchestra develops AI agents for administrative and operational tasks involved in drug discovery. Its software helps biotech businesses track finances and address scheduling problems involving clinical trials.

OpenAI said Orchestra’s staff and technology would contribute to Rosalind, its model for life sciences research, and the associated Rosalind Workbench. The Workbench tool is intended to assist researchers with experiment planning and the analysis of results. OpenAI named Moderna and Novo Nordisk among Rosalind’s customers.

Orchestra had reportedly raised around $20 million as of 2025, with Andreessen Horowitz, Atria and 8VC among its backers. The acquisition brings the startup’s biotech operations software into OpenAI’s existing life sciences research efforts.
