Deputy Governor Chiara Scotti said banks should experiment on a small scale even as the eventual reach of tokenization remains unclear.
Coinbase expands stablecoin lineup with Ripple's RLUSD
RLUSD has a market capitalization exceeding $2.5 billion and will be offered to both retail and institutional customers.

Coinbase said on October 28 that it is adding RLUSD, Ripple's dollar-backed stablecoin, to its retail and institutional platforms. The listing broadens the cryptocurrency exchange's selection of tokens designed to maintain a stable value.
Ripple introduced RLUSD in December 2024 to enable cross-border payments to settle almost instantly. Its market capitalization now exceeds $2.5 billion, data from CoinGecko shows. Jack McDonald, Ripple's senior vice president of stablecoins, said the listing and adoption across Coinbase's platform gave RLUSD added credibility.
Circle's USDC had long been Coinbase's main stablecoin offering. The exchange has since added alternatives including PayPal's PYUSD and Open USD. The latter is issued through a joint venture with backing from Visa, Mastercard and Coinbase.
Stablecoins are backed by traditional currencies, usually U.S. dollars, and are used primarily for trading other cryptocurrencies. Supporters say their uses can extend to immediate payments and the management of corporate treasuries.
