Meta puts commercial terms update on hold after publisher concerns
Publishers and digital advertisers have complained to EU and UK antitrust authorities about the proposed terms’ implications for AI content use.

Meta said on October 28 that it was postponing new commercial terms indefinitely after publishers and digital advertisers raised objections. The delay could avert potential regulatory action.
Complaints submitted to antitrust authorities in the EU and UK allege that the proposed terms would grant Meta unrestricted rights to use publishers’ and advertisers’ content in its AI services. Meta disputes that claim.
In a statement, Meta said it had heard publishers’ concerns about the proposed advertising and business terms. The company said it did not intend to change its policies before fully consulting industry groups and leaders.
Meta said those discussions could continue past November 20, which would push back implementation. Its current terms will continue to apply in the meantime, the company said.
