Quarterly revenue reached $23.58 billion, while more than 60% of postpaid lines in new accounts chose top-tier plans, the company's CFO said.
OpenAI business brings Microsoft $10 billion in quarterly revenue
Microsoft also reported $7.2 billion owed by OpenAI for past transactions, while its ownership stake in the AI company declined to 24%.

Microsoft said its OpenAI commercial arrangements brought in $10 billion for the September 30, 2026 quarter, including payments under their revenue-sharing agreement. The company disclosed the figures in a regulatory filing on October 28.
The OpenAI business represented nearly 11% of Microsoft's $92.3 billion quarterly revenue. The period opened Microsoft's fiscal 2027; revenue tied to OpenAI totaled $24.1 billion during fiscal 2026. How much came from revenue sharing rather than Azure cloud services was unclear.
OpenAI owed Microsoft $7.2 billion as September ended, against $6 billion at the close of June, Microsoft said. These outstanding receivables cover past transactions and do not count as additional revenue.
The companies' April 2026 agreement requires OpenAI to share revenue with Microsoft through 2030, with a cap, while allowing it to use competing cloud providers. Their previously exclusive partnership began becoming less restrictive in October 2025. An agreement that month included OpenAI's commitment to buy another $250 billion worth of Azure services.
Microsoft also disclosed a smaller ownership interest in OpenAI: 24% in September, versus about 25% in June and roughly 27% following the October 2025 recapitalization. It did not identify the cause of the dilution.
