Spotify eyes AI song remixes with extra subscriber fee, report says
The planned service could debut in early 2027, with licensing agreements reached with Universal Music Group, Merlin and Believe, according to a media report.

Spotify is targeting an AI music-remixing service for the opening quarter of 2027 and weighing a subscriber surcharge of $4 to $5 per month, according to a media report citing people familiar with the plans.
A potential announcement is being considered around February's Grammy Awards, the report said. The feature would allow paying subscribers to produce different versions of songs with AI, including recasting folk music as dance music or making a track sound like a cover by another artist.
The proposal would give original artists royalties from remixes made by fans. Listening to those remixes would also contribute to the original tracks' standings on Spotify's charts, according to the report.
Licensing agreements for the feature have been reached with Universal Music Group, independent label group Merlin and French music company Believe, the report said. Negotiations with Sony Music and Warner Music are continuing.
Spotify did not immediately provide a response to a request for comment.
