SoftBank considers Allied Universal deal at about $18 billion valuation
Discussions remain preliminary, with no decision on price. The potential acquisition could support SoftBank's interest in AI-powered security robots.

SoftBank Group is weighing a purchase of U.S. security services company Allied Universal that could value it at about $18 billion, according to an October 16 media report citing people familiar with the matter.
The talks are at an early stage, and neither a transaction nor a possible price has been decided, the report said. SoftBank declined to comment, while Allied Universal did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Allied Universal supplies security personnel to businesses, venues and major events. Its work also extends increasingly to data centers, where it supports facility development and operations.
According to the report, an acquisition would fit founder Masayoshi Son's efforts to explore robots powered by artificial intelligence across industries and expand the infrastructure supporting AI.
SoftBank would seek over time to use robots for some security duties now performed by Allied employees, the report said, citing one person. Another person cautioned that deploying humanoid-like security workers would likely take longer.
SoftBank completed the last stage of its planned $30 billion OpenAI investment in October. Its other technology holdings include a majority stake in Arm, while its Vision Fund has been a vehicle for large technology investments.
