Google Cloud to add OpenAI models and Codex for enterprise customers

Purchases through Google's marketplace will count toward customers' existing cloud spending commitments, the companies said.

Google Cloud will start offering OpenAI's most advanced AI models and the Codex coding agent within weeks, the companies said on October 21, giving OpenAI another channel to reach enterprise buyers.

GPT-6 Astra is among the models being added to Google's Model Garden. Customers will be able to purchase access on Google Cloud Marketplace and put those purchases toward cloud spending commitments they already have, a company blog post said.

The companies said customers operating in regulated industries would also be able to develop agentic AI workflows with OpenAI models while using Google's infrastructure and its tools for controlling access and governing data.

Microsoft's exclusive arrangement for distributing OpenAI models expired in April. OpenAI subsequently added Amazon Web Services as a distributor. The Google agreement extends a relationship that already includes a separate deal for computing capacity, even as the companies compete in AI and search.

Google Cloud has sought to offer outside models alongside its own. Cloud distribution is also significant for rival Anthropic: its IPO filing showed that Amazon's and Google's platforms accounted for 47% of its revenue in 2025.
