Nvidia in talks on further Reflection AI investment or takeover

The early-stage discussions could also lead to a staff-hiring and technology-licensing arrangement, according to a media report.

Nvidia is discussing whether to increase its investment in Reflection AI or buy the open-source startup, according to an October 10 media report citing people directly familiar with the matter. The negotiations remain preliminary.

One option would involve Nvidia hiring employees and licensing technology instead of acquiring the entire company, potentially avoiding a lengthy regulatory review, the report said. An agreement could come within weeks, but the discussions could also collapse. Neither company immediately answered requests for comment outside regular business hours.

Nvidia has already invested $800 million in Reflection, according to the report. Reflection chief executive Misha Laskin said in an April interview that the startup was raising additional capital at a pre-money valuation of $25 billion.

Former DeepMind researchers Laskin and Ioannis Antonoglou founded Reflection in 2024. It builds software-development automation tools and has launched Beam, its first open-weight model, seeking to compete with lower-cost Chinese models including DeepSeek and Kimi in coding and agentic tasks.
