Andreessen Horowitz broadens crypto arm’s remit with Frontier rebrand
The investment team will add AI, robotics and emerging networks to its focus while retaining an interest in blockchain.

Andreessen Horowitz is expanding the investment scope of its digital-asset business and changing its name to a16z Frontier from a16z Crypto, the firm announced on October 22, 2026. The broader mandate includes AI, robotics and emerging networks that connect people with machines.
Chris Dixon heads the business, which began operating in 2018. It has collected nearly $10 billion across five investment funds and backed companies including Coinbase.
Blockchain will remain part of the team’s focus despite the expansion into other technologies. In a blog post, Dixon said blockchain could provide economic capabilities native to these new networks.
The a16z Frontier general partner group also includes Eddy Lazzarin and Guy Wuollet. Separately, a media report said Ali Yahya had departed Andreessen Horowitz. Yahya became the crypto strategy’s first investor when he joined in 2017.
