Trump administration plans White House move for three AI testing officials
The planned transfer involves senior staff at CAISSI, a Commerce Department unit that evaluates advanced AI models, according to a media report.

Three senior officials at the Center for Advancing Innovation and Standards for Super Intelligence (CAISSI) would move to the White House under a Trump administration plan, according to an October 12 media report citing a White House official.
The report said the officials would answer to Michael Kratsios, who directs the Office of Science and Technology Policy, and Sean Cairncross, the national cyber director. The identities of the three officials were not disclosed.
Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick asked Kratsios and Cairncross six months earlier to share oversight of CAISSI, the report said, citing a senior Commerce Department official. A White House official cited difficulties coordinating with Commerce as the reason for bringing the unit's leadership closer to White House decisions on AI.
CAISSI is part of the Commerce Department. It examines the capabilities and safety of advanced AI models and has a role in the administration's framework for evaluating frontier AI systems before deployment. Neither Commerce nor the White House was immediately reachable for comment.
In October, Trump also appointed Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton as the administration's AI czar, assigning him to coordinate federal efforts aimed at maintaining US leadership in the technology.
