TikTok bans ad account promoting Alex Gibney’s Musk documentary
Bleecker Street was notified of a permanent suspension over political content, according to a media report. Meta and YouTube ultimately allowed trailer ads.

TikTok has barred the advertising account promoting “Musk,” a four-hour documentary directed by Alex Gibney, according to a media report. The platform told distributor Bleecker Street that political content was the reason for permanently suspending the account.
The film’s trailer promotion also encountered obstacles at Meta and YouTube. Both initially turned down the advertising before allowing it to run. Meta attributed its initial decision to an error. Musk’s own platform, X, has refused advertising for the documentary.
Larry Ellison holds a partial ownership stake in TikTok’s U.S. operations. Both Ellison and Musk have been prominent backers of President Donald Trump.
The documentary is expanding its theatrical rollout after opening at four theaters. Gibney, an Oscar-winning filmmaker, also confirmed that international distributor Universal had reconsidered releasing the film. Universal is now proceeding with those plans.
