Mercedes-Benz lowers 2026 profit forecast as China pressures persist
The carmaker now expects core profit of around €5.8 billion and a car-business margin of 2% to 3%. Its shares fell more than 4%.

Mercedes-Benz cut its full-year earnings outlook on October 27, 2026, citing difficult conditions in China and higher material costs. The German automaker said it now forecasts roughly €5.8 billion in core profit, unchanged from the previous year, rather than growth of at least 15%.
The company also reduced its projected profit margin for the core car division to a range of 2% to 3%. Its previous guidance put the margin between 3% and 5%.
Preliminary figures showed third-quarter core profit of €1.77 billion and a 2.5% margin at the car division. The company is due to publish its complete quarterly results on October 28.
Following the announcement, Mercedes-Benz shares dropped more than 4%. BMW and Volkswagen shares each lost about 2%. Both rivals had already reduced their annual forecasts amid weak demand and competition from Chinese manufacturers, including BYD and Xiaomi.
Mercedes-Benz deliveries to customers in China declined 29% during the first nine months of 2026. The drop followed a fall in 2025 to the lowest annual level since 2016.
