The central bank cut the rate on a share-buyback funding scheme to 1% and said planned swap operations could supply more than 100 billion yuan.
Hong Kong economy grows 5.2% in third quarter as exports accelerate
Growth exceeded economists’ 3.6% forecast, while output across the first three quarters rose at the fastest pace for that period in five years.

Hong Kong recorded third-quarter economic growth of 5.2% from a year earlier, according to preliminary official figures published November 3. Faster export growth and firm domestic demand supported the expansion, extending the economy’s growth streak to 15 quarters.
The result exceeded the average forecast of 3.6% in a poll of 10 economists. Annual growth had been 4.2% in 2026’s second quarter and 5.9% in the first. Real GDP rose 1.9% from the preceding quarter after seasonal adjustment.
Goods exports increased 30.4%, following a revised 28.9% rise in the second quarter. Imports grew 29.9%, compared with 29.3% previously. Private consumption expenditure rose 2.8%, slightly below the second quarter’s 2.9% increase.
A government spokesman said incoming figures indicated continued economic momentum. Global investment in artificial intelligence should support merchandise exports, he said, while inbound tourism, cross-boundary traffic and financial market activity should help services exports. He also flagged Middle East geopolitical tensions and tighter monetary policies at major central banks as risks requiring monitoring.
Across 2026’s first three quarters, real GDP increased 5.1% from a year earlier, marking the strongest growth for the equivalent period in five years.
