BMW reported an 11% decline in third-quarter pre-tax profit on November 4, 2026, following a warning that restructuring expenses could leave its main automotive business with an annual operating loss. Quarterly net profit dropped about 15% to €1.45 billion, while revenue declined almost 6% to €30.45 billion, the company said.

The German carmaker now forecasts a full-year operating margin of -0.5% to +0.5% for its car division, replacing its earlier projection of 1% to 3%. Costs contributing to the downgrade include restructuring measures involving 8,000 job cuts in Germany. The division recorded a third-quarter operating margin of 3.4%, compared with 5.2% a year earlier.

China was a drag on sales volumes. BMW said deliveries there dropped 24.8% during the quarter, after reaching their lowest level since 2017 last year. Worldwide deliveries fell 6.3%, despite increases of 2.6% in Europe and 2.5% in the US.

CEO Milan Nedeljkovic said BMW would step up and speed up structural changes in response to developments in the industry. The group, whose brands also include Mini and Rolls-Royce, has pledged to move more sourcing for vehicles sold in China into that country as it seeks to recover market share.

BMW shares traded 2% above their previous closing level at around 11:00 a.m. CET on November 4.
