Apple introduced a 14-inch MacBook Pro and an iMac using its latest M6 chip on October 27, pitching improvements in artificial intelligence processing on the devices. The laptop's starting price is $1,999, while the desktop starts at $1,499.

Compared with the M5 predecessor, Apple said the M6 MacBook Pro offers graphics performance that is up to 30% faster and AI performance that is up to 25% faster. The company also claimed battery life of up to 24 hours, describing that as a record for a Mac.

For the iMac, Apple said on-device AI performance is up to 5x faster than on the previous M4 model. Preorders will be offered across 35 countries and regions, including the US, before availability begins November 6.

The introductions precede Apple's October 28 “Pro and tell” event in Los Angeles. According to a media report, that event is expected to feature the company's first touch-screen MacBook Pro.
