OpenAI completed an initial $11 billion funding tranche on November 6 at a valuation of $1.25 trillion, a person familiar with the matter said. The financing is part of a larger round.

Two investors said the amount raised was only part of the company's original goal of up to $30 billion. The valuation was also below the $1.5 trillion OpenAI had initially sought. SoftBank and MGX were among the participants, the investors said.

The funding comes amid cooler investor sentiment toward AI companies over the past month. Some investors value rival Anthropic's planned IPO at about $1.5 trillion, compared with earlier expectations of roughly $2 trillion.
