Musk cites high costs as Grok Bot users hit usage limits

Some subscribers reported their weekly usage jumping from 50% to 100%. Musk said serving the AI product cost too much relative to revenue.

SpaceX CEO Elon Musk said on November 1, 2026, that unexpectedly exhausted weekly allowances for Grok Bot users were not a technical error, citing costs that were too high compared with the product’s revenue.

During Halloween weekend, some subscribers said on X that their usage meters had reached the maximum despite no overnight activity. Users reported readings rising from as low as 50% to 100%. Musk addressed the issue in a reply to a user on X but has not explained how subscribers’ allowances will change going forward.

The limits come as newly public SpaceX highlights AI’s contribution to its finances. In a filing, the company said AI represented 52% of its income.

Its renamed “Super Intelligence” division recorded a $431 million profit. That result included $1.2 billion in one-time expenses tied to the acquisition of Cursor, which reduced the division’s profit.
