Chinese artificial intelligence company DeepSeek has raised about $15 billion, according to a media report that identified battery manufacturer CATL and WeChat owner Tencent as potential investors. The financing comes two days after a U.S. order requiring civilian federal agencies to remove DeepSeek technology from their systems because of security concerns.

The Hangzhou-based company is increasing its investment in AI infrastructure and open models aimed at customers in China and abroad despite the U.S. restrictions, the report said.

DeepSeek previously raised more than $7 billion in June, when its valuation reached $50 billion. In July, it was reportedly pursuing another $1.5 billion at a valuation of around $71 billion, alongside plans for a possible Chinese IPO.

Liang Wenfeng founded DeepSeek in 2023 after co-founding the Chinese quantitative hedge fund High-Flyer, which provided financing during the company's early development. Corporate ownership records analyzed by WireScreen indicate that Liang retained an estimated 81.6% interest in DeepSeek's Chinese operating entity after the earlier funding round. DeepSeek did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
