Carta teams with NewView to simplify startup employee tender offers

A joint study found just 44 tender offers were completed in the first half of 2026, despite growing interest in employee share sales.

Carta has partnered with NewView to combine its equity platform with the investment firm’s expertise in structuring secondary deals. NewView founder and managing partner Ravi Viswanathan said the collaboration is intended to make employee liquidity programs easier for startups to establish and run.

The arrangement comes as startups remain private for longer, limiting opportunities for employees to sell shares received as compensation. Through a tender offer, employees and sometimes early investors can sell part of their holdings to an approved buyer at a price agreed in advance.

Adoption is still limited: research by NewView Capital and Carta counted 44 completed offers in the first half of 2026 and found that only a small proportion of startups conduct them.

Viswanathan said tenders are no longer confined to the most valuable private businesses. NewView led one for marketing customization startup HighTouch at a valuation of $1.3 billion when the company was seven years old.

Recent participants also include customer support AI company Decagon, autonomous-driving technology developer Wayve and AI voice company ElevenLabs. ElevenLabs held two offers within less than a year.

Viswanathan wants more founders to consider such transactions, arguing that giving employees opportunities to sell stock can improve morale and retention while helping private startups compete with public companies for talent.
