Crosby bids for Weil Gotshal assets as law firm prepares dissolution vote

The AI-focused law firm is seeking Weil Gotshal’s brand, trademark and unspecified internal data, while separately trying to recruit some of its lawyers.

Crosby, a two-year-old law firm built around artificial intelligence, has submitted an offer for selected assets of Weil, Gotshal & Manges. The proposed purchase covers the firm’s trademark and brand along with unspecified internal data. Financial terms were not disclosed, and the bid’s success remains uncertain.

Weil Gotshal confirmed it was preparing for a vote on dissolution, according to a media report. That report linked the planned wind-down to the departure of leading revenue-producing lawyers, the presumed leadership successor’s decision to decline the role and the abandonment of merger plans with Willkie Farr & Gallagher.

Separately from its asset bid, Crosby is trying to recruit some of Weil Gotshal’s 1,200 lawyers. Crosby operates as a law firm rather than a supplier of AI software to other legal practices, using technology developed internally to deliver legal services.

Crosby has raised about $85 million. Its funding includes a $60 million Series B in March led by Lux and Index, with Sequoia, Elad Gil, 01 Advisors and Bain Capital Ventures also participating. It emerged from stealth in 2025 with $5.8 million in seed funding.
