Google plans to make AI access opt-in for K-12 students in 2027, but schools blocking AI entirely would also lose its search engine.
Apple requires 18+ App Store ratings for dating and romantic AI apps
Developers must add content descriptors starting November 16, while apps with location-sharing functions will also face disclosure requirements.

Apple is tightening App Store age-rating requirements for dating services and AI companions offering sexual or romantic interactions, the company said in a developer announcement. Apps with dating or romantic relationship features must receive an 18+ rating.
From November 16, developers must supply additional content descriptors so their apps’ ratings account for the functions they offer, Apple said. Major dating platforms generally already limit access to adults, but the policy also covers romantic companion features within AI apps.
Character.AI and Replika are among the services that allow users to create virtual companions, including romantic partners and fantasy characters. Apple’s policy change follows its worldwide rollout of age assurance technology and the addition of parental controls and child safety tools.
Developers must also disclose whether an app lets people share their real-world location with individuals or groups. In Brazil, Apple said family location-sharing apps can seek an official classification from the Ministry of Justice and Public Security rather than carry the A16 rating otherwise required under local law.
