Wynne Evans Issues Apology Following Controversial Remark at Strictly Tour

Wynne Evans, the Welsh opera singer and presenter for BBC Radio Wales, finds himself at the center of controversy following an inappropriate comment made during the Strictly Come Dancing live tour. As Evans, 52, prepared for a group photo at the Birmingham Arena, a Mail on Sunday reporter recorded him making a sexualised remark. This incident comes just as Evans is poised to feature in the BBC series "Wynne & Joanna: All at Sea" alongside actress Joanna Page. The series is set to be released on Monday.

Evans is perhaps best known for his role in adverts for Go, and for his participation in BBC One's "Strictly Come Dancing" last year with dance partner Katya Jones. His behavior during the show previously drew viewer attention due to what some described as awkward incidents. This latest controversy has prompted Evans to issue an apology.

"My language was inappropriate and unacceptable, for which I sincerely apologise." – Wynne Evans

The incident has prompted responses from both the Strictly Live Tour and BBC Studios. A spokesperson emphasized their firm stance against such behavior.

"We have made it very clear to Wynne that we do not tolerate such behaviour on the tour." – A spokesperson for the Strictly Live Tour and BBC Studios

"We were not previously aware of the remark and did not receive any complaints," – A spokesperson for the Strictly Live Tour and BBC Studios

The BBC had announced new welfare measures for Strictly last July, introducing chaperones in all rehearsal rooms and adding two new welfare producers. Additional training was provided for professional dancers, production teams, and crew. These changes followed the departure of professional dancers Giovanni Pernice and Graziano Di Prima last year after allegations concerning their behavior towards dance partners emerged.

Despite the controversy, Evans will continue to perform during the tour. He is scheduled to sing at the matinee show on Sunday and both sing and dance in the evening show.

"We do not tolerate unacceptable behaviour." – A spokesperson for BBC Wales
