Walmart has initiated a recall of more than 12,000 cartons of its Great Value Chicken Broth due to potential packaging failures. The recall affects 48-ounce containers produced by Tree House Foods and is ongoing in several states. These states include Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Texas, impacting approximately 242 Walmart stores. The recall began in December 2024 but was only recently published on the FDA's website.
The packaging issue raises concerns about the sterility of the broth, prompting the recall of approximately 2,023 cases. While the FDA has not reported any illnesses associated with the product, Walmart is taking precautionary measures to ensure customer safety. The recalled products bear a "Best if Used by" date of March 25, 2026, with a lot code of 98F09234. Consumers can identify these products by the retail unit UPC 007874206684 and case UPC 078742066844.
Walmart has expressed its commitment to customer safety throughout this process.
“The health and safety of our customers is always a top priority,” said a Walmart spokesperson.
As soon as the issue surfaced, Walmart acted swiftly to remove all affected products from their shelves.
“As soon as we were made aware of the issue, we took action to remove all impacted products from the select, impacted stores. We are continuing to work with the supplier to investigate,” a Walmart spokesperson added.
Walmart is currently collaborating with the appropriate authorities to determine the root cause of the packaging failure. Customers who have purchased the recalled chicken broth are advised to dispose of it immediately. They can request a full refund at their local Walmart store.
