Vardy Ordered to Pay Over £1.4 Million in Rooney Legal Costs

Rebekah Vardy ordered to pay more than £1.4 million towards Coleen Rooney’s legal costs. This injunction follows the failure of Vardy’s 2022 High Court claim. The decision comes after years of complex litigation that has captivated the public’s attention. It derives from Rooney’s accusations that Vardy was leaking her personal details to tabloid newspapers.

Coleen Rooney’s legal costs soared to more than £1.8 million. Originally, Vardy was made to be liable for 90% of those costs as she lost the court case. Outrageously, during the case’s proceedings, Rooney’s side requested 315,000 pounds in “costs of assessment,” a request which added even more provocation to a complicated case.

In an unexpected twist, Vardy offered to pay Rooney £1.19 million in damages. With interest and other costs, she now owes well over £1.4 million. This total has ballooned far above her initial loan. Judge Mark Whalan ruled that an additional amount of £212,266 is “fair and proportionate” for Vardy to pay. This new annuity is reflected in the overall dollar figure.

Rooney’s original legal expenses faced scrutiny from Vardy’s barrister, Juliet Wells, who characterized them as “substandard.” Wells disputed that these costs were “grossly disproportionate” and even proposed recalibrating them not to exceed “no more than £100,000.” Overall, the court found in favor of Rooney’s legal team and provided a remedy.

In response, lawyers for Rooney argued that Vardy had brought issues on herself. They suggested that it was her doing that created these costly legal fights. They all suggested that Vardy needed to think carefully about how she conducted herself throughout the trial.

Neither party was present at the remote courtroom where the decision was made public. Judge Whalan seemed to share their hope that this ruling would enable them to move on. He conveyed a deep personal commitment to see this long-standing dispute come to closure.
