Ubisoft Confirms Realism of Leaked Assassin’s Creed Shadows Footage

Ubisoft, the renowned gaming company behind the celebrated Assassin's Creed series, confirmed that leaked footage of "Assassin's Creed Shadows" circulating online is indeed authentic. The upcoming game, set in 16th Century Japan, marks a significant first for the franchise with its Japanese setting and dual protagonists. This latest installment introduces players to Naoe, a female ninja, and Yasuke, a character inspired by the historical figure known as "the African samurai."

Originally slated for a February 14 release, "Assassin's Creed Shadows" has faced delays, now rescheduled for March 20. Despite the leak, Ubisoft reassures fans that the shared gameplay videos "did not represent the final quality of the game." The anticipation remains high as this game promises to expand the horizons of the Assassin's Creed universe.

Ubisoft is navigating a period of transformation as it seeks to streamline operations and reduce costs. The company, which employs over 18,000 people globally, has initiated layoffs and closed its Leamington Spa office in England as part of these efforts. Amidst this restructuring, Ubisoft is also in search of a potential buyer, signaling significant shifts within the organization.

The Assassin's Creed series stands as one of the most successful gaming franchises worldwide, having sold over 200 million copies and generating approximately €4 billion ($4.2 billion/£3.3 billion) in revenue over the last decade up to 2024. This legacy underscores Ubisoft's stature as a leading player in the gaming industry.
