Trump Suspends Military Aid to Ukraine Amid Tensions with Zelenskiy

U.S. President Donald Trump has paused all military aid to Ukraine, following a contentious exchange with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy. The decision, confirmed by a White House official on Monday, marks a significant shift in U.S. foreign policy towards Ukraine and reflects Trump's growing frustration with Kyiv's perceived lack of appreciation for American support.

The escalation began when Zelenskiy commented that the end of the war with Russia was "very, very far away." Trump's reaction was swift and critical. He expressed his dissatisfaction on Truth Social, stating, "This is the worst statement that could have been made by Zelenskyy, and America will not put up with it for much longer!" This public rebuke highlights the deepening rift between the two leaders at a time when U.S. military support remains crucial for Ukraine.

Trump's administration views a potential minerals deal as a means to recoup some of the financial and military aid extended to Ukraine since Russia's invasion three years ago. Despite his frustrations, Trump suggested that an agreement to open up Ukraine's mineral resources to U.S. investment could still be reached. When asked on Monday if the deal was dead, he replied, "No, I don't think so," indicating that negotiations may continue despite current tensions.

A White House official emphasized the administration's focus on peace and the need for Ukraine to align with that goal. "The President has been clear that he is focused on peace. We need our partners to be committed to that goal as well. We are pausing and reviewing our aid to ensure that it is contributing to a solution," the official stated.

On Tuesday night, Trump is expected to address Congress and provide further updates on the situation, which could shed light on the future of U.S.-Ukraine relations. European leaders have also been exploring proposals for a truce in the ongoing conflict, but Trump's approach diverges from traditional U.S. policies that previously emphasized robust support for Ukraine.
