Trump Organization Fuels 2028 Speculation with New Merchandise and Constitutional Amendment Push

The Trump Organization has recently made headlines with speculation over a likely third presidential run by Donald Trump. Most recently, they have put out a new run of merchandise, featuring a “Trump 2028” hat and t-shirt. Pretty sharp, right? You can get yours for $50 on the Trump Store. On top of that, don’t miss our special edition red shirt featuring the “Trump 2028” logo with the slogan “Rewrite the Rules,” yours for only $36! This decision comes as the debate rages about amending the U.S. Constitution. The only purpose would be to free Trump and future presidents to pursue their political careers beyond eight years in office.

Bannon Steve Bannon, the Trump administration’s chief counselor, just issued the shot heard ‘round the world. He announced that the former president will go for a third term and be reelected. He said a commitment to long-term strategy development for what will be an unparalleled campaign is already in place with that same core team. Bannon’s best (and most confident) guess for Trump’s political future had him taking the oath of office January 20, 2029.

There is one huge constitutional hurdle President Trump would need to cross in order to run for a third term. As it stands now, the U.S. Constitution only allows for a maximum of two consecutive terms for any individual president. To amend this rule, Representative Andy Ogles introduced a House resolution specifically aimed at allowing Trump to seek a third term. The proposed amendment explicitly states, “No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than three times, nor be elected to any additional term after being elected to two consecutive terms.”

In March, President Trump did not dismiss the idea of running for re-election in 2028 but remained noncommittal, stating, “I’m not — it is far too early to think about it.” His optimistic but vague comments leave the impression that, despite indeed contemplating such a thing, he is still looking at what politics looks like today.

For months, he has hinted at his potential candidacy for a third term. In May, he raised the question of how he would be classified if he were to win again: would he be labeled a three-term or two-term president? At least, that’s what these comments have led his supporters — and political analysts — to speculate.

Bannon’s unabashed optimism about the long-term influence of Trump’s political trajectory is indicative of the prevailing wind in his base. Karoline Leavitt, a former aide, remarked on the appeal of the new merchandise: “It’s a cool hat and I suspect it will be highly popular!” This kind of enthusiasm from supporters shows that Trump’s brand remains highly effective in energizing the base among Republican primary voters.

As opponents of amending the Constitution to overturn Citizen United advance their proposals, remember that Ogles’ resolution is aimed squarely at Trump. It does not apply to the other ex-presidents. This very novel feature of the proposed amendment has raised eyebrows. Understandably, people want to know how it will affect future elections and what precedent it will set.
