Jamie White, a 36-year-old reporter for the far-right news website Infowars, was tragically shot and killed late Sunday night in Austin, Texas. The incident occurred when White attempted to intervene as at least two suspects were reportedly breaking into his vehicle outside his apartment. The shooting took place at approximately 11:56 p.m. local time in a residential area of south Austin.
White was treated at the scene by emergency responders before being transported to a nearby hospital. Despite efforts to save him, White was pronounced dead shortly after midnight. This unfortunate event marks the eighth homicide in Austin for the year 2025.
The Austin Police Department initially announced the killing early Monday morning but did not identify White as the victim. However, Alex Jones, the founder of Infowars, quickly named White in a post on the website, describing him as "brutally murdered." Homicide detectives are currently investigating the case, indicating that White's death is being treated as a homicide.
Eyewitness reports suggest that at least two suspects might have been burglarizing White's vehicle when he confronted them. Leah Ratliff, a spokesperson for the Austin Police Department, confirmed that officers discovered an injured man at the scene showing "obvious signs of trauma."
