As many of you may have heard, we recently had a horrific incident occur at Utz Quality Foods in Hanover Borough. Picture this—34-year-old Trever Staten, a subcontractor, died after falling through a skylight as he installed scaffolding on the factory roof. Investigators have ruled Staten’s death an accident, the result of the “blunt force trauma” he sustained from falling out of the vehicle.
Accident Description Without warning, he fell 30-34 feet to a loading dock area located beneath his work area. Emergency responders took him to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries soon after arrival.
Highlighted the importance of safety measures and procedures in effect at construction sites. Investigators stated, “For an unknown reason, it appears that the decedent was on the roof and fell through a skylight.” This tragic statement places emphasis on the importance of looking into innovative safety measures such as aerial work platforms, especially when working at heights.
Trever Staten really cared about what he did. He enjoyed being a loving dad to four kids, including his boys Trever G. Staten, Jr. and Julius J. Staten by birth. In an online obituary, it was noted that Staten’s “greatest joy was spending time with his kids.”
Staten took on this new chapter as doting, stay-at-home father with gusto. During his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, casino fun and grilling up great eats. He served as a volunteer football coach for his son’s youth league. This dedication demonstrates his deep and abiding commitment to family and community.
Utz Quality Foods, headquartered in Hanover, Pennsylvania, has expressed condolences to Staten’s family during this difficult time. The plant has historically been the bedrock of the community. Today, it can hardly get its footing back in the wake of this terrible event.
