At least 14 people lost their lives, and 30 others sustained injuries during a horrifying attack in New Orleans' French Quarter on New Year's Day. The incident occurred around 3:15 a.m. on January 1, amid the festivities marking the start of the new year. A pickup truck, driven by 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Jabbar, plowed through a crowded area, causing chaos and devastation.
The attack not only claimed lives but also left two police officers injured after Jabbar reportedly opened fire from within the vehicle. Law enforcement responded swiftly, fatally shooting Jabbar at the scene. Initial reports indicate that Jabbar may have been carrying an ISIS flag during the incident, raising concerns about the motivations behind the attack.
Among those killed was Edward Pettifer, a 31-year-old resident of Chelsea, London. He was the stepson of Alexandra Pettifer, known as Tiggy Legge-Bourke, who served as the nanny to Prince William and Prince Harry during the 1990s. The tragic news of Pettifer's death has reverberated beyond familial ties, with Prince William expressing his condolences publicly.
