Donald Trump, who served as the 45th President of the United States from 2017 to 2021, was sworn into office once again as the 47th President on Monday in Washington, D.C. Following his inauguration, lawmakers in multiple states have launched initiatives to rename roadways in his honor. At least two states are actively pursuing the renaming process, further embedding Trump's legacy into American infrastructure.
In 2021, Missouri Senator Mary Coleman introduced a bill proposing to rename a stretch of Interstate 55 as the "Donald J Trump Highway." The momentum continued in other regions. The city of Hialeah, Florida, took action by renaming Palm Avenue to President Donald J. Trump Avenue in 2023. As of Friday, roads bearing Trump's name exist in at least three states, including Trump Drive in Kalispell, Montana, and the President Donald J. Trump Highway in Oklahoma. The Oklahoma road spans nearly two dozen miles along U.S. Route 287 from Boise City to the Texas state line.
Kentucky is among the states considering this initiative. State Representative T.J. Roberts has proposed naming nearly 12 miles of Kentucky Route 18 as Donald J. Trump Highway. This segment runs from Florence to Rabbit Hash in Boone County and could potentially share naming rights with Floyd Poore, a late Kentucky physician, if the bill passes.
In Arizona, State Senator Wendy Rogers introduced a bill to rename State Route 260 as the "Donald J. Trump Highway." This proposal cites Trump's accomplishments, including his victory in the 2024 presidential election popular vote and being the first Republican nominee for president to achieve this milestone in two decades.
The drive to rename roadways after Trump reflects his enduring influence and the admiration he holds among certain lawmakers and citizens. His supporters view these initiatives as fitting tributes to his presidency and achievements.
