Tottenham Hotspur has agreed to a €25 million deal to sign centre-back Kevin Danso from Ligue 1 side Lens as the club grapples with an injury crisis. Danso, who previously played in the Premier League on loan at Southampton during the 2019-20 season, will initially join Spurs on loan until the end of the season, with an obligation to buy in the summer.
The 24-year-old defender made 128 appearances for Lens, earning a spot in the Ligue 1 Team of the Year for the 2022-23 season. His arrival comes at a crucial time for Tottenham, who sit 16th in the Premier League table and have won only one of their last 11 league matches. Head coach Ange Postecoglou is under increasing pressure as the team struggles to find form.
Spurs' defensive woes deepened after Radu Dragusin suffered a knee injury during their Europa League victory over Elfsborg on Thursday. The injury has prompted the club to intensify its search for reinforcements in the transfer market, particularly in light of Danso's recent decision to turn down a potential move to Wolverhampton Wanderers in favor of joining Tottenham.
Tottenham will face Brentford in their next Premier League fixture on Sunday, which adds urgency to their recruitment efforts. In addition to Danso, Postecoglou confirmed that several key players, including Guglielmo Vicario, Brennan Johnson, Destiny Udogie, Wilson Odobert, Timo Werner, and James Maddison, are expected to return to action within the next 10 days.
The club had previously agreed on a deal with Bayern Munich for forward Mathys Tel, but the player declined the opportunity to join Tottenham. As the transfer window draws to a close, Spurs are actively seeking players to cover various positions and enhance their squad depth.
