Sir Tim Rice to Take Audience on Musical Journey in Cornwall

Sir Tim Rice, the iconic lyricist and playwright, is set to embark on a new tour titled “My Life In Musicals – I Know Him So Well.” That long-awaited concert will happen at Truro’s Hall for Cornwall on Wednesday. The show promises an engaging retrospective of Rice’s extensive career in musical theatre, showcasing his collaborations with legendary composers and the memorable productions he has contributed to.

The concert will include music from the acclaimed West End and Broadway hits, “Jesus Christ Superstar,” “Evita” and “Chess.” Audiences can expect an innovative and dynamic combination of narrative and live musical performance like never before. Rice will take you on a fascinating journey through his storied career and encounters with industry greats.

Having visited Cornwall for nearly five decades, Rice has cultivated a deep connection with the region, particularly the Helford River area, where he has spent considerable time playing cricket. His own personal history adds a tender layer to the performance that makes it quiet, passionate, and deeply intimate. It provides him the opportunity to meditate on his travels while remembering his happiest days in Cornwall.

On this tour, Rice will be appearing live on stage for the first time ever. He’ll participate in colorful Q&A’s with some of his most famous collaborators such as Andrew Lloyd Webber, Elton John, Bjorn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, Alan Menken & Mike Batt. He’s going to captivate the audience with colourful personal stories and reflective insights. Along with these stories, you’ll get a behind-the-scenes look into his creative process.

“I chat in between the songs and rabbit on whatever comes into my head,” Rice explained about his approach to the performance. His frankness and humor should make for an entertaining event that attendees won’t want to miss.

Rice has publicly cited his admiration for peer and fellow songwriter Barry Gibb, calling Gibb the greatest songwriter ever.

“One writer I admire enormously is Barry Gibb but Barry Gibb is brilliant because he writes great words as well as great music so he wouldn’t need me.” – Sir Tim Rice

Rice’s self-deprecating humor shines through as he reflects on his own abilities, stating, “Sometimes you need a bad voice to illustrate a bad lyric and I fit that perfectly.” He is well aware of his shortcomings as a performer but found a greater purpose in telling others’ stories and experiences.

The performance will feature four talented singers who will accompany him throughout the show, enhancing the musical experience for the audience. Sir Tim Rice completed a fantastic career in musical theatre. His uncommon creativity and versatility are especially evident in his collaborations with just as many great contemporary composers and playwrights.

As the tour progresses, Rice plans to travel across the UK until the end of May, bringing his musical journey to various audiences eager to hear from one of the industry’s luminaries.
