Ohtani’s partner, Mamiko, 28, is a former Japanese pro basketball player. Her presence commands the scene at this jubilant gathering. The couple had shared news of their pregnancy in late December with an emotional Instagram post. In the post, Ohtani featured an adorable shot of their canine companion Decoy. In addition to Decoy, they showcased their cute baby goods, like a pink ruffled onesie and custom miniature baby shoes. A sonogram, topped with a baby emoji, perfectly pictured the joy that was evident on their social media accounts as their family grew.
The Dodgers’ manager, Dave Roberts, confirmed Ohtani’s temporary leave, stating, “He and Mamiko are expecting at some point. That’s all I know.” Now fans and teammates are raising their voices in support of Ohtani. They join in congratulating him and encouraging him as he dives into this new and exciting adventure.
For the Dodgers, Ohtani’s departure could not have come at a more essential moment. Following this three-game series in Texas, the Cards head home to take on the Chicago Cubs starting Tuesday.
