Series of Earthquakes Rattle Texas-New Mexico Border, USGS Reports

Earthquakes have been rattling the Texas-New Mexico border, with the United States Geological Survey (USGS) recording a series of quakes ranging in magnitude from 2.5 to 4.6. On Friday afternoon, an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.8 was reported southwest of Ackerly, Texas. Residents in parts of New Mexico and West Texas reported feeling the tremors.

The USGS data indicated that the earthquake occurred at a depth of approximately 4.2 miles, about 16 miles southwest of Ackerly. Ackerly is situated roughly 60 miles northwest of Midland and approximately 320 miles west of Dallas, Texas. The seismic activity was felt across several areas, including New Mexico's Carlsbad, Alamogordo, and Roswell, along with West Texas cities such as El Paso.

Despite the significant seismic activity, no injuries or damages have been reported. Residents in the affected areas have expressed concern but remain unscathed by these recent tremors. The earthquakes add to a series of seismic events shaking the Texas-New Mexico border region in recent weeks.

Local authorities and emergency services are closely monitoring the situation, ensuring public safety and readiness should any further or more severe seismic events occur. The USGS continues to investigate the cause and potential aftermath of these earthquakes to provide timely updates to residents.
