Seahawks Weighing DK Metcalf Trade Options Amid Contract Stalemate

The Seattle Seahawks are currently exploring trade options for their star receiver, DK Metcalf, following his request for a trade just a day earlier. Metcalf, who remains under contract through 2025, has one season left with approximately $18 million remaining on his current deal. The Seahawks have engaged in conversations with the Las Vegas Raiders among other teams as they entertain the possibility of trading him. Despite these developments, General Manager John Schneider has not ruled out the possibility of Metcalf playing for the Seahawks next season.

Schneider praised Metcalf, describing him as a "great worker" and a "pro" who consistently shows up and is dedicated to his craft. The Seahawks' discussions with Metcalf regarding a contract extension have been unsuccessful so far. Meanwhile, the team has a self-imposed deadline of the upcoming draft to make a decision on whether to trade their star receiver.

"The thing to understand here is that our responsibility to [owner] Jody Allen, the 12s, first and foremost is doing what's absolutely best for the organization, A, and then B, what's best for the player," said John Schneider.

"Hopefully both those things merge and it's an ideal situation. Sometimes that happens, sometimes it doesn't. Hopefully in this situation it does, and that would be great," he added.

In the event that the Seahawks decide to part ways with Metcalf, they plan to consider the best offer from interested teams. Schneider acknowledged Metcalf's understanding of the business side of football and his professionalism throughout the process.

"He's a guy that understands the business. He's a businessman himself. I think he understands that we're going to head down this road. He understands that we're going to do what's best for the organization, and that if things don't fall the way he may want, that there's a good chance he could end up being here," Schneider explained.

"And at that point, we all turn the corner and move forward. So that's the way it works," he continued.

The Seahawks were reportedly upset by the leak of Metcalf's trade request, which coincided with their announcement of releasing fellow receiver Tyler Lockett. This development adds another layer of complexity as they navigate potential roster changes.

In addition to Metcalf's situation, linebacker Ernest Jones IV recently underwent a cleanup procedure on his knee after the season but has been working out at the team's facility. This highlights ongoing efforts to maintain player health amid roster uncertainties.

As discussions continue, Schneider emphasized the importance of resolving Metcalf's future before the draft.

"You definitely want to know what's going on before draft time," Schneider stated.

"Because he's such an important part of our team, the organization, the offensive philosophy that these guys want to move forward with on our new coaching staff, we want to know how we're going to compensate for his loss if he's not with us," he elaborated.
