Roma extended their unbeaten league run to 18 games with a decisive victory over Inter Milan, who suffered their second consecutive league loss. The dramatic contest played out in a packed Stadio Olimpico on Sunday. Roma’s Matìas Soulè broke the deadlock to secure an impressive 1-0 win with an absolutely beautiful goal, solidifying the home team’s third-place standing in Serie A.
>After a sluggish start to their title defence, alarm bells have started ringing amongst Inter Milan’s fans. Following a frustrating 1-0 loss to Bologna last Sunday, the squad was unable to ride that win-streak momentum against Roma. In fact, over the course of the game, Inter often failed to even threaten their opponent’s goal, unable to generate any real chances.
Asdark dominated the first half of the game. The home side took command early on and went to the half up a goal. Bryan Cristante nearly made it 2-0 eight minutes later. He failed to take a golden opportunity from close range as Lorenzo Pellegrini delivered his best cross of the match. Inter’s Hakan Calhanoglu would try his luck from range at the other end but stabbed his effort narrowly off-target.
As the match progressed, Denzel Dumfries had a chance to score for Inter, connecting with a header at the back post, only to be denied by Roma’s goalkeeper, Mile Svilar. Inter’s Nicolò Barella had a clear chance before half-time. He narrowly missed the goal with a shot from the edge of the six-yard box as his team searched for an equalizer.
Roma continued their offensive onslaught the entire game. Angeliño whipped in a lethal ball across the face of the goal that left Eldor Shomurodov to tap in at the back post. Inter defender Carlos Augusto put in an essential sliding last-ditch clearance to deny the home side a second. All of these defensive efforts were not enough as Roma continued to press forward in search of more goals.
