Remembering Michael Baggott: A Fond Farewell to the Antiques Expert

Michael Baggott, renowned antiques expert best known for his appearances on the BBC series "Flog It!", has passed away at the age of 51 following a heart attack. Baggott, whose deep-rooted passion for antiques began during his childhood, spent five weeks in the hospital after the cardiac event in October. Despite expressing feelings of hopefulness on social media in December, his untimely passing marks the end of a celebrated career in the world of antiques.

Baggott's journey into the realm of antiques began when he was just a schoolboy. His first purchase, a Chester silver Vesta case for £22, sparked a lifelong fascination with antique British silver, boxes, and early spoons. Over the years, he cultivated an unrivaled knowledge and enthusiasm for these artifacts. His expertise led him to prestigious roles at Christie's and Sotheby's, where he managed the saleroom's south silver department for four years.

On "Flog It!", Baggott became one of its most memorable figures. The show invited members of the public to have their antiques valued by experts, with an option to sell them at auction. Baggott's presence and passion for collectables were unmatched, making him a beloved character on the series. Rob Unsworth, a colleague from "Flog It!", described him as "one of Flog It's most memorable characters, expert in all manner of collectables." Although the series has not been in production for several years, Unsworth remarked that viewers continue to enjoy Baggott's appearances.

"Though the series hasn't been in production for several years, we hope Michael's family can take comfort from how much viewers have continued to enjoy his appearances on this ever-popular show" – Rob Unsworth

Baggott's legacy in the antiques world extends beyond television. He was often praised for his generosity and wealth of knowledge. Nick Hall, another colleague, fondly remembered him as "a font of knowledge and generous with his knowledge, a raconteur and all round top bloke." His contributions to the field as a connoisseur and ambassador of antiques have left an indelible mark on enthusiasts and professionals alike.

"A font of knowledge and generous with his knowledge, a raconteur and all round top bloke, a pleasure to have known you Michael" – Nick Hall

In the wake of his passing, Baggott's family expressed their profound sorrow.

"He was a dearly loved son, brother, nephew and uncle who will be deeply and profoundly missed" – Michael Baggott's family
