The gripping finale of "The Traitors," a reality TV show set in a Scottish castle, captivated an average audience of 7.4 million viewers on Friday night. This marks the most-watched episode in the show's history on BBC One. Developed by Dutch producer IDTV and broadcaster RTL, the show was introduced to the UK by Studio Lambert in 2022. In its third series, "The Traitors" has become a must-watch event, drawing viewers to its unique format where strangers complete missions to increase a prize fund.
The finale's overnight viewing figures included both live viewers and those who caught up through services like BBC iPlayer. This represented an increase of 1.6 million compared to last year's final. Additionally, 4.8 million viewers tuned in for an extended episode of "The Traitors: Uncloaked" podcast, aired on BBC One and Sounds.
The show's winners, Jake Brown and Leanne Quigley, will share a prize of £94,600. Jake Brown, a project manager living with cerebral palsy, shared his thoughts about his journey on the show.
"Even though I'm disabled, it doesn't define me as a person… But I am proud of it. It makes me who I am." – Jake Brown
Leanne Quigley, a former soldier, also played a crucial role in their victory.
Among the show's traitors were Charlotte Berman, an interior designer who adopted a Welsh accent despite not being Welsh, Francesca Rowan-Plowden, another interior designer, and Alexander Dragonetti, a former British diplomat who battled a "sense of paranoia" during filming. Francesca reflected on the experience with her fellow traitors.
"I guess we didn't trust each other enough… We had a really lovely time together and really bonded." – Francesca Rowan-Plowden
Hosted by Ed Gamble, the finale saw him joined by the finalists and co-host Claudia Winkleman to discuss their experiences and react to the concluding episode.
