An exceedingly rare Nirvana album sleeve, signed by all three members of the legendary grunge ensemble, will soon go under the hammer at Wessex Auction Rooms in Wiltshire. So save the date, April 16! This unique piece features the cover of Nirvana’s groundbreaking album “Nevermind,” which not only defined a generation but solidified the band’s place in rock history.
The album sleeve also boasts signatures from the band’s then-frontman Kurt Cobain, drummer Dave Grohl and bassist Krist Novoselic. This rarity shines through, and indeed, it could be the single most elusive treasure among famous music collectibles. Full sets of signatures from this period are scarce. This sleeve can claim to be the most well-signed example to ever come to market. Due to its rich history and provenance, the sleeve is estimated to sell in auction for approximately £12000-£15000.
This remarkable item has a compelling backstory. Haggis, the vendor, artfully collected those signatures. This came after Nirvana blew the doors off 300 kids at the Bristol Bierkeller on November 4, 1991. Unfortunately for the band, they played to one of the smallest crowds of the tour with only 700 people in attendance. That show has since achieved mythical status among fans. After the show, Haggis and a few friends chatted excitedly backstage. They cheered loudly when the band finally came out, and they were able to get their autographs.
The sleeve has since sat in the dark, in a loft for over 30 years, wrapped up and preserved until now. Its rarity is highlighted by the fact that full sets of Nirvana signatures from this period rarely appear.
